Lewin’s model

Lewin specifically considers a three-stage process of managing change:

  • Unfreezing
  • Changing
  • Re-freezing

Unfreezing:

  • Unfreezing is about encouraging people think about the current situation and helping them recognise the need for change

Changing:

  • The second stage requires organising and mobilising the resources required to bring about the change
  • Analysing the alternative options
  • Selecting the change
  • Planning the change
  • Empowering the staff

Re-freezing:

  • The third stage involves embedding the new ways of working into the organisation.
