  • A chance to summarise past performance and establish new performance goals
  • Speak on regular basis (3 months or so) rather than once in 12 months.
  • An opportunity for honest two way communication. Most importantly listen.
  • A forum for career development. Career development takes place as part of the appraisal process
  • Prepare in advance
  • Review Past Performance Objectively
  • Actively listen
  • Be specific about successes and failures
  • Agree and set SMART goals (Smart, measurable,achievable,realistic,target orientated)
  • A formalised document of employee performance
  • Both parties sign
  • Give a copy to candidate and send to HR.
  • Review in 3 months time
